Q. What does interlocking mean?
A. Interlocking means the squares are sewn together without strips of material in between because they create a design where the 4 corners meet. When you purchase an interlocking pattern, we recommend that you sew them together before embroidering them. Sometimes your material can become stretched from being in the hoop and the designs may not match up after embroidery.

Q. I am stitching a stamped design and the blue Xs show from under my stitching. What should I do?
A. You must finish stitching the entire design and complete the necessary quilting before you wash the blue ink out. The ink will be removed by water, so do not get any liquids on the product before you finish. Follow the instructions on the package.

A. If the product is in our current line, we will be able to email or mail you a replacement copy. Please send an email with the product number and pattern number to custserv@jdneedleart.com

Q. What supplies will I need?
A. You should have a selection of needles, floss, scissors and fabric available. Each package lists the colors and number of skeins needed.

Q. How many strands of floss should I use?
A. We typically recommend 3 strands, unless otherwise noted on the package.

Q. My thread is constantly twisting. What should I do?
A. As you stitch in and out of the fabric, you are inadvertently twisting the thread by turning the needle. This can cause knots and frays. Just let your needle dangle every so often to let the thread unwind.

Q. How do I end my thread?
A. Before you get too far to the end of your thread, end it by weaving it under your stitches to tie a knot. Remember to avoid weaving a dark color under a light color as it may show through.

Q. How do I know how many packages of quilt squares I need for different size quilts?
A. Each package description will tell you how many packages are needed for a twin, full, queen or king size quilt. The number of packages will vary based on whether it is made up of interlocking quilt squares or whether it has 3” strips of material in between the squares.

Q. What is applique?
A. Applique is simply attaching a fabric design on top of the fabric square. Using coordinating or contrasting fabrics gives a beautiful look.
